Cute caterpillar

Picture
Here's a little Spring cutie that is really easy to make.

You'll need:
An egg carton
Water-based paint
A pipe cleaner or drinking straw
Googley eyes from your local cheap shop

 Here's how:
1. Cut the egg carton in half and then cut one half in two along the widest length.  You should end up with two pieces, each containing a line of six cups.

2. Paint the first cup bright red, or another bright colour of your choice; then paint the remainder of the cups green, or some other contrasting colour.

3. Glue a pair of googley eyes to the front of the first cup.

4. Make two holes on the top of the first cup with a skewer or scissors and insert two piece of pipe cleaner or drinking straw.

5. You might like to also make some paper leaves for your hungry caterpillar to munch on.

Grow your own grass heads.

Spring is officially here, which means that it's time to start planting and growing things with your grandchildren. Here’s a quick and easy pot method.

You will need:
  • small pot
  • potting soil
  • grass seeds
  • marker
  • white glue
  • googley eyes and pompom
  • small piece of yarn
Instructions:
  1. Glue the googley eyes, pompom and yarn onto the side of the pot to create a face. Use a marker to add extra details such as eyebrows, eyelashes or a moustache—be creative!
  2. When the pot has had some time to dry, fill it three quarters of the way with potting soil (this is great for both fine motor development and hand-eye coordination).
  3. Gently pat the soil down and sprinkle grass seeds generously on top.
  4. Next, cover the seeds with a thin layer of soil and gently pat the contents of the pot down once again.
  5. Lastly, water the seeds and keep the soil moist until the grass begins to sprout.
  6. Water the grass regularly in order to create a thick head of hair for your grass head.
  7. Now for the best part—cut, style and accessorise your grass head's hair however you please!

Don’t feel restricted to a pot… you can use virtually any container to create your special crop! Try edible seeds such as cress or salad sprouts.

Puffy paint

Picture
The kids will have hours of fun with these bright and colourful homemade Puffy Paints. They’re simple to make and you can vary the consistency as needed and make as many colours as you like.

This 3 Ingredient Puffy Paint can be used to create all sorts of artwork like the cute clouds and rainbow to the right.

We guarantee that the kids will be kept entertained for hours on end and you will probably find yourself joining in.

You are going to be amazed at what the ingredients are. The best part is you use equal parts, so the recipe is easy to remember. To reduce mess, just store the paints in plastic squeeze bottles.

It’s a great way to encourage the kids creativity and you can even use it direct from the squeeze bottle or pop in a ziplock bag and snip the end. You can also use in the bath.

So have you guessed what the 3 Ingredients are yet? The photos that we have featured should give you some clues. It’s very simple as mentioned before and all you are going to need is PVA Glue, shaving cream and food colouring.

You'll need:
  • Can of shaving cream
  • Bottle of PVA glue
  • Plastic cups for mixing, 1 for each colour you’re going to make
  • Plastic spoon
  • Food colouring

Add equal amounts of PVA glue and shaving cream to each cup.  Add a few drops of food colouring and mix well together.  Do this for each colour you want to make.  Set the cups out with some paint brushes and paper and see how creative they can become with their amazing puffy paint!
