Make a stunning succulent birdcage.
Here's a crafty, container DIY that is fun to do.
Take a decorative hinged bird cage, line it with moss, plant it with succulents—hang and enjoy. You might have to look around for a cage with a hinged top but it's worth the effort. Check out some of the on-line homewares sites or look at buy/swap/sell sites to see what you can find. Take some sphagnum moss and line the cage, fill with soil as you tuck in your plants all the way up to where it is hinged. Plant a few succulents on top, hang and enjoy. The moss allows the soil to drain well and the hardy succulents won't care if they dry out a little. The plants will grow and create a whimsical hanging basket that will look fabulous on a verandah or pergola. Keep the door open and you might be lucky enough to spot some finches or other birdlife perching there to admire the view. |
